Back to Uni Skincare for Men

Get back into the swing of things with studying and skincare with a few simple steps towards better self-care this autumn season.

Study up on skincare and get back into the swing of things before uni kicks off with these super easy steps.

Heading back to uni and needing a bit of a skincare refresh post-summer? We feel you – between festivals, celebrations, and maybe a few too many beers (only maybe), summer can leave your skin hungry for nourishment and a decent cleanse.

Contrary to popular belief, men’s skin needs just as much TLC as women's to stay healthy, so if you've thrown caution to the wind and let things slide for a bit, here’s some tips to help get back on track just in time for first semester.

  1. Lock in a decent face wash

A simple rule of thumb for face wash is to tailor it to your skin type and any associated concerns.

If your skin starts getting shiny halfway through the day and is prone to breakouts, give our Bulldog Oil Control Face Wash a whirl to combat grease and deeply cleanse your skin.

If your main concern is skin sensitivity, dryness, or irritation, Bulldog Sensitive Face Wash helps gently clean without stripping your face of moisture.

Reckon your skin’s pretty low-maintenance? Props to you, but it still needs a thorough clean every single day – Bulldog Original Face Wash will see you right there.

  1. Moisturise daily

Once you've got your cleansing routine down, it's time to move onto moisturiser. You can choose a lightweight lotion or cream depending on your skin needs and the time of year. During summer, opt for something lighter that won't sit heavy on your skin, like Bulldog Oil Control Moisturiser.

During winter you might want to switch to something more nourishing so the cold weather doesn’t take a toll on your skin. Our top pick is Bulldog Sensitive Moisturiser, which is full of soothing ingredients like oat oil and willow herb brighten and hydrate your skin no matter the weather - a touch of revitalisation every day!

  1. Don't forget SPF

You might not think sunscreen’s worth it when you’re sitting in lecture halls all day, but skin science begs to differ. Harmful UV rays are damaging all year round and can affect your skin in all sorts of ways even if you’re not outside for long.

Look for an SPF 50+ moisturiser or sunscreen that’s non-greasy so it won't weigh down your skin or clog your pores and slap it on every day before you head to class.

Step-by-step student skincare routine

We figured that between sussing schedules, nailing exams, and getting amongst the O-Week madness you’ve probably got enough on your plate, so we’ve put together the ultimate skincare routine for each season to see you through the uni year.

Summer:

  1. Cleanse your skin in the morning and the evening with your favourite face wash.
  2. Use an exfoliating scrub once or twice a week to help remove dead skin cells and built-up oil.
  3. Add a lightweight moisturiser to your morning and evening line up if needed.
  4. Finish off with a hard-working SPF 50 before heading out.

Winter:

  1. Cleanse your skin in the morning and the evening with a gentle face wash to remove dirt and impurities.
  2. Follow up with a nourishing moisturiser and sunscreen before heading out in the cold weather.
  3. Use an exfoliating scrub once or twice a week to help remove dead skin cells and built-up oil.

Take our suggestions with a grain of salt too though - regardless of the season, the best skincare routine is always the one that’s tailored to your individual needs. Take some time to get to know your skin type and how it behaves in different weather, then build out a consistent routine from there.
Best of luck for the semester!
