How to adapt your skin & exercise routine for autumn

The secret to a solid workout and skincare routine as the temperature drops? Motivation. Here’s a few tips and tricks to get yours and keep it up this autumn.

We get it – with shorter days, cooler temperatures and changing weather, it can be tricky to maintain healthy habits this time of year. Luckily, there’s a few foolproof ways to boost workout motivation and help your skin keep up with the change in pace too – don’t say we never do anything for you!

1.     Keep things fresh

Novelty is key here – switch up and refine your regular routine during the cooler months to keep things fresh, fun, and full of gains.

Try a different exercise - With temperatures cooling down, now is the perfect time to try new types of exercise. From yoga to swimming to Pilates, there are plenty of indoor activities to try that’ll help keep you active without freezing your feet off!

Stay hydrated – Yep, water’s important for both your skin and your body even when it’s cold. Make sure to bring a bottle of water with you and take regular breaks during your workout whenever you’re working up a sweat.

Set new goals – Having something measurable to work towards like a specific step count per day or a reps per set goal can help you stay focused and motivated when the weather’s chilly and the couch is calling.

Incorporate variety - If your regular routine’s feeling a bit stale, why not create some variety? Adding different exercises to your workout makes it more well-rounded and keeps exercise exciting.

Focus on fun – If you enjoy the exercise you’re doing, you’ll be more motivated to keep it up – simple. Try building your own energising playlist for longer workouts, or consider inviting a mate along to join the fun and help keep you moving.

 2. Track your progress

A change in seasons is an awesome excuse to re-evaluate your daily routines, but if you don’t track your progress week by week, you might not know where to start.

By tracking things like the number of steps you’ve taken each day or how much weight you’ve lifted at the gym, you can easily identify where you’re succeeding vs. what needs a bit more work.

Your skincare routine is no different – try taking note of how your skin changes throughout the year and adjust how you look after it accordingly (e.g. dry and flaky during winter? Up the moisturiser use. Breaking out after the gym? Try using an oil control cleanser.)

3.     Match your skincare to your workout

Different kinds of workouts demand different skincare tweaks. With cooler temperatures and changing weather your skin can become dry and irritated after exercising outdoors, meaning a more intensive moisturiser could be on the cards (we hear Bulldog Sensitive Moisturiser is pretty popular… 👀)

Always apply SPF before heading outside too, even on cloudy days – those damaging UV rays don’t stop for anyone.

4.     Lock in a post-exercise skincare line-up

Whether you prefer working out in the morning or the evening, cracking straight into your skincare routine after breaking a sweat is always a good call.

Step 1: Cleanse

Wash away any residual sweat and grime with a cleanser that suits your skin type.

If your skin’s oily and acne-prone, Bulldog Oil Control Face Wash will help you out, whereas Bulldog Sensitive Face Wash suits skin that’s easily irritated. If your skin’s neithier oily or irritated, Bulldog Original Face Wash has your back.

Step 2: Moisturise

Moisturising is essential after a workout, helping to keep your skin feeling healthy and protecting it from environmental damage for the rest of the day.

Choose either Bulldog Oil Control Moisturiser, Bulldog Sensitive Moisturiser, or Bulldog Original Moisturiser depending on your skin’s needs and give yourself a post-workout fist-bump for a job well done!

Good luck hitting those fitness goals – with a good workout plan and skincare to match, we know you’ll smash them.
